Aerial Safety

Aerial equipment should never be used unsupervised, please consult a professional.

Everything below assumes you have a suitable and safe rigging point, like a professionally installed rigging point or a reputable and rated freestanding rig. Not every home/studio will be the same, so we cannot advise on this part. If you haven’t established a safe rigging point, please do this first with the help of a structural engineer/experienced rigger/professional familiar with what you're hanging and where you're hanging it.

Stunning colours

These fabrics look stunning at home, in the studio, or on the stage. The fading ombre colours and the dazzling multi-colour designs look particularly spectacular when backlit and make for incredible photos and performances.

Prodigy uses a heat printing technique that gives the colours high precision. This means the ombre colour will change gradually, look natural, and consistent. Hand dying won’t allow for such high precision and consistency.

Performance and practice

Heat printing keeps the yarn smooth and soft, hand-dying can negatively affect the texture of the fabric. These fabrics retain a nice shine, and because of the heat printing, they are less slippery than our single-colour Prodigy silks.

The vertical colour fade of the ombre colours will help you find the fabric's edges quickly and easily, making separation of the fabric easier, saving time and energy when you’re in the air.

These are low-stretch, making them easy to climb. Low-stretch is not no-stretch, they still have a little bounce, which is comfortable for drops and wraps.

At 280cm/110 inches wide, they are excellent for cocoons and width-based wraps. At 40 denier, they won't be too bulky for most aerialists' hands.

Rig with a figure 8

If you want to spin, connect a figure 8 to your swivel. We recommend using a swivel to reduce the rotational force on your rigging and anchor point.

If you don't want to spin, you can connect directly to your anchor point or use a strop/polysafe rope between hardware, but be aware of rotational forces on the rigging and anchor point.

Rig with a silks hook

If you want to spin, connect a silks hook to your swivel. We recommend using a swivel to reduce the rotational force on your rigging and anchor point.

If you don't want to spin, you can connect directly to your anchor point or use a strop/polysafe rope between hardware, but be aware of rotational forces on the rigging and anchor point.

How do these silks compare?

Slack drops

All aerial fabrics are prone to reaching high temperatures during long or high-energy slack drops, which can result in small melted patches and holes. These holes are caused primarily by the friction of the fabric rubbing against itself and the performer during high-speed movement. Correct technique, clothing, and fabric choice will help your fabrics last longer.

All nylon and low-stretch fabrics are more susceptible to this phenomenon than the stretchy polyester of Firetoys Silks.

You should always take care when practising slack drops and be aware of the heat you can generate during these drops. If you regularly perform slack drops, you will need to inspect the entire length of your fabric regularly, and the fabric will need replacing more often.

Selvedge

Firetoys silks have tenter holes at the edges where the fabric is manufactured.

For comfort and aesthetics, these tenter holes have been trimmed off to ensure a uniform width and look.

Selvedge

Prodigy Multicolour silks are produced with tenter holes as part of their manufacture.

This allows the signature multicoloured patterns to be precisely printed onto the fabric.

These small holes at the edges of the fabric will curl out of view, and do not affect the strength, durability, or function of the fabric.

Gorgeous silks with exceptional grip

These are the first silks I've purchased. I train mostly on rope and so I was worried about the stretch and grip. I called Firetoys and spoke to a fabric technician. They kindly and patiently answered all of my questions and recommended these silks instead of the single colour silks. I couldn't be more happy with my purchase. The silks are low stretch with enough give for drops and they have excellent grip. Plus the ombre effect looks stunning in all kinds of shapes!

Absolutely love this colour. Just the right size. It is very low stretch. Not great for dynamics but awesome for everything else. I am the envy of the class with this gorgeous silk.

I loved the colour. A bit longer than I wanted, but great for a higher outdoor rig. This is more no stretch rather than low stretch.

Beautiful multicolor silks (watercolor splash)

I'm relatively new to silks (just seven months in) so haven't had much experience. These are lower stretch than the silks I practice on at the studio but I bought these for home use. My rigging point is not very high, so I wanted lower stretch so I could still practice smallish drops and feel safe in my estimates. Beyond happy with how they look!
